Imaginary Older Sister: Ione Skye

Ok, so I came up with a name.  ( Anne, I owe it all to you - tell Alec I said hi, and let me know if you go visit him at college in September, because I want to come!)

I'm an only child, but I think the "cool older brother/sister" fantasy applies to pretty much everyone.  I'm using this little patch of sunshine  to talk about people who inspire me, or that I just think are really cool, so I guess the title is appropriate.  And to any of them want to apply for the job officially, I promise I won't go in your room while you're out.   

SO.  Ione Skye. 

You might know her from Say Anything (  one of my favorite movies ever. EVER.  it's perfect ).  She played Diane Court to John Cusak's Lloyd Dobler. 

here's the semi-unrepresentative trailer (ignore the '80's "snare drum" keyboard).  it actually has a lot of really good parts from the movie in it.




Ione's been in a bunch of other movies too, sort of sporadically.  She was in that movie "A Night In the Life of Jimmy Reardon", which was quite possibly the weirdest movie River Phoenix ever made ( i think they re-edited it or something), and sort of dirty.

Some things you might not know about Ione that all add up to her being pretty darn cool:

- Her dad is Donovan, the '60's singer.



- She was married to Ad-Roc from the Beastie Boys ( and was name-checked in Get it Together )  but left him to go out with Jenny Shimizu, who was a really cool model back in the '90's.  I thought her hair was awesome.

 

- she married  ( ed - see comments - i guess they weren't married) the interior designer David Netto later ( who rules), and her painfully rad house was featured in Domino Magazine about 2 years ago.   ( she and David are now divorced, but they have an adorable daughter.)



I know all this is sort of superficial, and I honestly don't have any deep-seeded reasons for liking Ione so much - I just do.  When you make history in a Cameron Crowe movie, marry a Beastie Boy, and then migrate over to the world of home decor,  a place in my heart is pretty much guaranteed. 

( I have a lot more, um, imaginary older siblings that I will be able to explain my affinity for with a little more detail - this one is probably the person that the title of this post fits best for.  Everyone wants a cool older sister, and let's face it , Ione would be the coolest.  )
